The offshore investment has turned out to be a highly safe and beneficial way of building wealth. In today’s times of recession, it has become necessary to think twice before investing. Among the sectors which have managed to stay away from the ill effects of recession is the energy sector. Energy sector stands the strongest in the past 150 years. This is owing to the urbanization which has taken place everywhere calling for more energy in every sphere of life. The greater demand for energy would mean continued higher return over investment in energy sector in the coming years. The investment into the energy sector has risen in recent years with the last year seeing an investment inflow of 155 billion dollars.

The need for energy is rising continuously. This is owing to the limited supply of fossil fuels. This has led to a slow shift towards the renewable energy sources that are unlimited in supply. There are organizations like the World Energy Research which are engaged in developing the prospects in the energy sector. The organization also enables the investors to gain from the investments in a volatile energy market, without becoming prey to the market vulnerabilities.

The energy sector also offers offshore opportunities to the investors. These can be hugely beneficial for those investors who are seeking services like protecting assets as well as earn a huge return over investment. Investing in energy sector can also benefit the mankind which is totally dependent on the need for energy. Energy sufficiency is the need of the hour for the world and investing in the energy sector can be a small step on the part of the investors towards this.

When there is recession in almost all parts of the world economy, investors have become too choosy about their investment decisions. Today these investors not just want profits but also a great deal of security. One sector which offers both these aspects is the energy sector. The energy sector is standing strong with a projected return over investment of 650% and more.

With the rising prices of fossil fuels and its demand more than supply, investing in the energy sector is sure to give rise to profits. Besides fossil fuels, renewable sources of energy are also coming up as the energy source for the upcoming generations. The renewable energy, also known as green energy, is increasing in popularity because of its unlimited nature and environment friendly attributes.

Investing in Renewable energy is a secure and sure way of investing. Some of the investments in the renewable energy sector take only few days to realize. The sector also offers the facility of offshore banking and investment. The offshore banking services 13 enable the investors to open an account outside the country of residence of the investors. With the help of these accounts, the investors can often gain access to tax effective ways to handle large amounts of money. The offshore bank account also enables the people to have a great deal of privacy, especially for those who are concerned about revealing the true amount to others.

I am finding it difficult to determine how you were able to arrive at an net asset value 4x greater than the stated book value of $16. Perhaps you assigned a great amount of value to BKS brand names which have not been recognized on the balance sheet?

Hi Jonothan,

I would be curious to hear the answer directly from Francis Chou as to why he now has 5 funds. Why as a value investor would he not just incorporate it all into 1 fund and decide the weightings of bonds and domestic to foreign equities.

Second his funds have balloned to large assets under management and i wonder why he hasn't capped the funds to take advantage of smaller opportunities?

Sorry these likely aren't the questions you were hoping for but i have been wondering them for a while and they popped into my head when i saw this forum.

Hi all,

I'd like to get out and start conducting interviews with professional money managers to share with you. Please use this forum as a place to post questions you would like to see answered by some well known, and some of the lesser known, value investors out there.

Just post as the ideas come to you! We'll keep this as an ongoing thread to collect questions and I'll use them as opportunities arise.

Thank you.

I haven't had the time to do a detailed study of BKS' reports, but just from glancing over their financial statement from google finance, the company is at 1 bil market valuation, and they have around 1 bil in net PPE. So hey, thats some decent downside protection, tho I still dont' feel too comfortable in relying on PPE as something to mitigate downside risk, I still prefer cash for that.

Market value of long term debt can be tricky as you first need to estimate the company's cost of debt - using comparables, actual traded debt, etc. Once you have this you would take the interest payment in dollars and divide it by the cost of debt estimated. This will give you the market value of the debt.

Bonjour Richard! Unfortunately I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that as my models are my own which I have developed. I would recommend reading over the book slowly and building the calculations into excel as you go. After that bring it all together and revise assumptions based on your own intuition. Best of luck.
